Stephanie F. Heller, M.D., is an acute care surgeon with a special interest in trauma, critical care and abdominal surgery. She is the chair of the Division of Trauma, Critical Care and General Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Her clinical focus includes:

  • Enterocutaneous fistulae
  • Surgical wound care
  • Acute care surgery
  • Trauma surgery and critical surgical care

Dr. Heller earned her medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine. She completed her general surgery residency and her critical care surgery fellowship at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota. She earned her Health Professional Education Certificate at the University of Illinois in Chicago. She completed a surgical education fellowship at Southern Illinois University.

In addition to her clinical activities, Dr. Heller is an active leader in research and is widely published. Beyond surgery research, she is interested in analyzing variables involved in the learning outcomes of surgical residents and preparing students for careers in medicine. She earned an Excellence in Teaching award from the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
