He finished his Neurology residency at the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg in Manitoba, Canada and then became a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) in Neurology. Dr. Mirsattari completed a clinical epilepsy/EEG fellowship in the Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences plus PhD in Neuroscience Program in the Department of Graduate Studies, from the University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario that was funded through a postdoctoral research fellowship by the Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR). Dr. Mirsattari is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) in the Specialty of Neurology. He is a certified electroencephalographer by the Canadian Society of Clinical Neurophysiologists (CSCN). He was an Associate Professor and a Clinician Researcher at the Departments of Clinical Neurological Sciences, Medical Biophysics, Medical Imaging, and Psychology in the Western University, London (Ontario), Canada where was on faculty since July 2004. He concurrently worked as a scientist at Lawson Health Research Institute (LHRI)/ Robarts Research Institute (RRI) and a consultant neurologist at London Health Sciences Centre. Dr. Mirsattari worked as an epileptologist/ clinical neurophysiologist in the Comprehensive Epilepsy Surgery Program and Epilepsy/General Neurology Clinic at the London Health Science Centre from July 2004 to March 2024. He also provided consulting neurology services (mostly remote EEG interpretations) for Health Sciences North in Sudbury (Ontario), Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie (Ontario), and Bluewater Health in Sarnia (Ontario) and participated in Ontario Telestroke services. He is a national EEG examiner in Canada. He has trained many neurology residents, clinical and research fellows in epilepsy and supervised many undergraduate/ graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in neurosciences. He served as the secretary treasurer, vice-president, and president of the CSCN and a member of the board of directors for the Canadian Neurological Sciences Federation (CNSF).

Dr. Mirsattari has held leadership positions nationally and internationally, published extensively in the field of epilepsy/EEG, with translational as well as basic/clinical research interests. He has been involved in multicentre clinical trials.

His professional activities have been multiple and include membership of the board of directors of the Canadian Neurosciences Federation (CNSF), Secretary treasurer/vice-President/President of the Canadian Society of Clinical Neurophysiologists (CSCN), CSCN EEG representative in the scientific committee of the CNSF, CSCN representative at CNSF Professional Development Committee (PDC), examiner for the national EEG examination, membership of the Student and Resident Education Committee of the American Epilepsy Society (AES), and member of the board of directors for Epilepsy Southwestern Ontario. He has been a member of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), AES, Society for Neurosciences (SFN), and the Canadian League Against Epilepsy (CLAE).

Dr. Mirsattari's main research interests are in the field of clinical epilepsy, EEG, functional neurological disorders, and neuroimaging. His current research projects include the study of central autonomic nervous system in epilepsy and its relationship to sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP), plasticity of the brain function in patients with drug-resistant epilepsy, functional connectivity mapping of the brain functions in patients with first seizure or psychogenic non-epileptic seizures, clinical features of psychogenic non-epileptic seizures, cortical stimulation, seizure semiology, diffusion tensor imaging, stereo EEG, multicentre randomized clinical trials in epilepsy, plus animal models of epilepsy.
