Forward leg lift

Balance exercises can help you avoid falls and broken bones as you age. If your balance is good and you want to keep it that way, try these balance exercises.

If you have severe balance problems or certain orthopedic conditions, see your doctor before beginning these exercises.

Do balance exercises at least once a day most days of the week. Start by holding on to a table or wall with one hand. Then try placing only a fingertip on the surface while you do balance exercises. If you're unsteady, ask someone to stand nearby.

To do a forward leg lift:

  • Lift one leg slightly off the floor
  • Hold for five seconds
  • Repeat at least five times
  • Switch to other leg
