The barium contrast study enables your physician to examine your upper gastrointestinal tract and small bowel for the presence of ulcers, tumors, strictures and other abnormalities. It also allows visualization of motor or motion abnormalities of the esophagus, stomach and small bowel and assessment of gastroesophageal reflux.
