Prevention
By Mayo Clinic staffThere's no real way to prevent a Bartholin cyst. However, practicing safe sex — in particular, using a condom — and maintaining good personal hygiene may help to prevent infection of a cyst and the formation of an abscess. If you detect a cyst, treating it right away by soaking in warm water (sitz bath) may help prevent abscess formation, as well.
