How you prepare

By Mayo Clinic staff

Before chorionic villus sampling, you can eat as usual. You may need to have a full bladder for the procedure, so drink plenty of fluids before your appointment. Depending on the placental position, however, you may be asked to empty your bladder just before the procedure. Your health care provider may ask you to sign a consent form before the procedure begins. You may want to ask someone to accompany you to the appointment for emotional support or to drive you home afterward.
