Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Change or problem with discharge of semen

Less common

  1. Agitation
  2. blurred vision
  3. confusion
  4. decreased interest in sexual intercourse
  5. fever
  6. inability to have or keep an erection
  7. increase in the frequency of urination or amount of urine produced
  8. lack of emotion
  9. loss in sexual ability, desire, drive, or performance
  10. loss of memory
  11. menstrual changes
  12. skin rash or itching
  13. trouble breathing

Rare

  1. Behavior change similar to drunkenness
  2. bleeding gums
  3. breast tenderness or enlargement or unusual secretion of milk (in females)
  4. chills
  5. delayed or inability to have an orgasm
  6. diarrhea
  7. difficulty with concentrating
  8. dizziness or fainting
  9. drowsiness
  10. increased hunger
  11. increased thirst
  12. irregular heartbeat
  13. lack of energy
  14. lethargy
  15. nosebleed
  16. overactive reflexes
  17. painful urination
  18. poor coordination
  19. purple or red spots on the skin
  20. rapid weight gain
  21. red or irritated eyes
  22. redness, tenderness, itching, burning, or peeling of the skin
  23. seizures
  24. shivering
  25. slow or irregular heartbeat (less than 50 beats per minute)
  26. sore throat
  27. stupor
  28. sweating
  29. swelling of the face, ankles, or hands
  30. talking or acting with excitement you cannot control
  31. trembling, shaking, or twitching
  32. trouble with holding or releasing urine
  33. unusual or sudden body or facial movements or postures
  34. unusual tiredness or weakness

Incidence not known

  1. Back or leg pains
  2. black, tarry stools
  3. blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  4. bloating
  5. bloody stools
  6. chest pain or tightness
  7. confusion as to time, place, or person
  8. constipation
  9. cough
  10. darkened urine
  11. difficult or fast breathing
  12. difficulty with swallowing
  13. drooling
  14. fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat
  15. general body swelling
  16. hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, or throat
  17. hives, itching
  18. holding false beliefs that cannot be changed by fact
  19. impaired consciousness, ranging from confusion to coma
  20. indigestion
  21. joint or muscle pain
  22. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or sex organs
  23. loss of appetite
  24. loss of bladder control
  25. loss of consciousness
  26. muscle cramps, spasms, tightness, twitching, or jerking
  27. painful or prolonged erection of the penis
  28. pale skin
  29. penile erections, frequent or continuing
  30. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  31. recurrent fainting
  32. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  33. rhythmic movement of the muscles
  34. seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there
  35. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
  36. stomach pain
  37. swelling of the breasts or unusual milk production
  38. tenderness, pain, swelling, warmth, skin discoloration, and prominent superficial veins over the affected area
  39. total body jerking
  40. twitching, twisting, uncontrolled repetitive movements of the tongue, lips, face, arms, or legs
  41. uncontrolled jerking or twisting movements
  42. unusual excitement
  43. vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds
  44. yellowing of the eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Decrease in sexual desire or ability
  2. sleepiness or unusual drowsiness

Less common

  1. Body aches or pain
  2. change in sense of taste
  3. continuing ringing or buzzing or other unexplained noise in the ears
  4. gas
  5. headache (severe and throbbing)
  6. hearing loss
  7. heartburn
  8. increased sweating
  9. increased yawning
  10. loss of voice
  11. loss or thinning of the hair
  12. sneezing
  13. stuffy or runny nose
  14. tingling, burning, or prickly feelings on the skin
  15. tooth grinding
  16. unusual increase or decrease in weight
  17. watering of the mouth

Rare

  1. Increased hair growth on the forehead, back, arms, and legs
  2. tanning or blue-gray discoloration of the skin

Incidence not known

  1. Bruising
  2. decrease in smell
  3. inability to sit still
  4. large, flat, blue or purplish patches in the skin
  5. loss of sense of smell
  6. need to keep moving
  7. uncontrolled eye movements
