Sulfapyridine (Oral Route)

Drug Information provided by: Micromedex

Description

Sulfapyridine is a sulfa medicine. It is used to help control dermatitis herpetiformis (Duhring's disease), a skin problem. It may also be used for other problems as determined by your doctor. However, this medicine will not work for any kind of infection as other sulfa medicines do.

This medicine may cause some serious side effects. Before using this medicine, be sure to talk to your doctor about these problems, as well as the good this medicine will do.

Sulfapyridine was available only with your doctor's prescription.

In December 1990, the manufacturer discontinued marketing sulfapyridine.

Once a medicine has been approved for marketing for a certain use, experience may show that it is also useful for other medical problems. Although these uses are not included in product labeling, sulfapyridine is used in certain patients with the following medical conditions:

  • Pemphigoid
  • Pyoderma gangrenosum
  • Subcorneal pustular dermatitis
