Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Chills
  2. cold sweats
  3. confusion
  4. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  5. sleepiness or unusual drowsiness

Less common

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. blurred vision
  3. changes in patterns and rhythms of speech
  4. chest pain
  5. cough
  6. drooling
  7. fever
  8. inability to move the eyes
  9. inability to sit still
  10. increased blinking or spasms of the eyelid
  11. lip smacking or puckering
  12. loss of balance control
  13. mask-like face
  14. muscle aches
  15. need to keep moving
  16. painful or difficult urination
  17. puffing of the cheeks
  18. rapid or worm-like movements of the tongue
  19. restlessness
  20. shakiness in the legs, arms, hands, or feet
  21. shuffling walk
  22. slowed movements
  23. slurred speech
  24. sore throat
  25. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  26. sticking out of the tongue
  27. stiffness of the arms or legs
  28. sweating
  29. swelling of the face, arms, hands, feet, or lower legs
  30. swollen glands
  31. trembling and shaking of the hands and fingers
  32. trouble with breathing, speaking, or swallowing
  33. uncontrolled chewing movements
  34. uncontrolled movements of the arms and legs
  35. uncontrolled twisting movements of the neck, trunk, arms, or legs
  36. unusual bleeding or bruising
  37. unusual facial expressions
  38. unusual tiredness or weakness

Rare

  1. Dry, puffy skin
  2. fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat
  3. loss of appetite
  4. menstrual changes
  5. unusual secretion of milk (in females)
  6. weight gain

Incidence not known

  1. Aching or discomfort in the lower legs or sensation of crawling in the legs
  2. agitation
  3. bed-wetting
  4. blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  5. bloating
  6. bluish lips or skin
  7. chest discomfort
  8. constipation
  9. dark urine
  10. decreased awareness or responsiveness
  11. decreased urine output
  12. depression
  13. diarrhea
  14. difficulty breathing
  15. difficulty in passing urine (dribbling)
  16. difficulty swallowing
  17. dizziness
  18. faintness
  19. general feeling of tiredness or weakness
  20. headache
  21. hives, itching, skin rash
  22. hoarseness
  23. increased thirst
  24. indigestion
  25. irritability
  26. joint or muscle pain
  27. light-colored stools
  28. loss of consciousness
  29. lower back or side pain
  30. muscle cramps, spasms, stiffness, or twitching
  31. nausea
  32. painful or prolonged erection of the penis
  33. painful urination
  34. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  35. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  36. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  37. red, irritated eyes
  38. seizures
  39. severe constipation
  40. severe sleepiness
  41. severe vomiting
  42. sore throat
  43. stomach pain, continuing
  44. tightness in the chest
  45. tingling of the hands or feet
  46. unusual bleeding or bruising unusual drowsiness, dullness, or feeling of sluggishness
  47. unusual weight gain or loss
  48. upper right abdominal pain
  49. vomiting
  50. yellow eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

Less common

  1. Abnormal vision
  2. belching
  3. decreased appetite
  4. decreased strength and energy
  5. heartburn
  6. increased appetite
  7. increased muscle tone
  8. increased sweating
  9. indigestion
  10. sneezing
  11. stomach discomfort or upset
  12. stuffy or runny nose

Other side effects not listed may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your healthcare professional.
