Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

Less common

  1. Bleeding gums
  2. bloating
  3. blood in the urine
  4. blurred vision
  5. burning upper abdominal or stomach pain
  6. canker sores
  7. chest tightness or heaviness
  8. chills
  9. cloudy urine
  10. cough
  11. cramping
  12. dark urine
  13. decreased frequency or amount of urine
  14. difficult or labored breathing
  15. dilated neck veins
  16. dizziness
  17. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  18. general feeling of tiredness and weakness
  19. headache
  20. hives or welts
  21. increased blood pressure
  22. increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight
  23. increased thirst
  24. irregular breathing
  25. itching, soreness, or redness other discoloration of the skin
  26. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or genitals
  27. light-colored stools
  28. loss of appetite
  29. lower side or back pain
  30. noisy breathing
  31. pain or discomfort in the arms, jaw, back, or neck
  32. painful or difficult urination
  33. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  34. pinpoint red or purple spots on the skin
  35. pounding in the ears
  36. seizures
  37. severe and continuing nausea
  38. severe sunburn
  39. shakiness in the legs, arms, hands, or feet
  40. skin blisters
  41. sore throat
  42. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or tongue or inside the mouth
  43. stomach bloating, burning, cramping, tenderness, or pain
  44. sweating
  45. swelling or puffiness of the face
  46. swollen glands
  47. trembling or shaking of the hands or feet
  48. unusual bleeding or bruising
  49. upper right abdominal or stomach pain
  50. watery or bloody diarrhea
  51. weight gain or loss
  52. yellow eyes or skin

Rare

  1. Area rash
  2. blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  3. bloody or black, tarry stools
  4. clay-colored stools
  5. cold, clammy skin
  6. continuing vomiting
  7. cough
  8. cracks in the skin
  9. difficulty with swallowing
  10. fast, weak pulse
  11. fever with or without chills
  12. greatly decreased frequency of urination or amount of urine
  13. hoarseness
  14. joint or muscle pain
  15. lightheadedness
  16. loss of heat from the body
  17. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  18. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  19. red, irritated eyes
  20. scaly skin
  21. severe stomach pain
  22. tightness in the chest
  23. unpleasant breath odor
  24. unusual tiredness or weakness
  25. vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds

Incidence not known

  1. Difficulty in passing urine (dribbling)
  2. difficulty with speaking
  3. double vision
  4. inability to move the arms, legs, or facial muscles
  5. inability to speak
  6. pains in the chest, groin or legs, especially the calves
  7. severe headache of sudden onset
  8. slow speech
  9. stomach pain, continuing
  10. sudden loss of coordination
  11. sudden onset of slurred speech
  12. sudden vision changes
  13. swelling of the feet or lower legs

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  2. pain in the chest, upper stomach, or throat
  3. rapid weight gain
  4. severe stomach pain
  5. seizures
  6. slow or fast heartbeat
  7. swelling around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Diarrhea
  2. gas
  3. heartburn
  4. indigestion

Less common

  1. Abnormal dreaming
  2. anxiety
  3. appetite increased
  4. bad, unusual, or unpleasant after taste
  5. belching
  6. bloated or full feeling
  7. burning feeling in the chest or stomach
  8. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  9. burning, dry, or itching eyes
  10. change in taste
  11. changes in vision
  12. confusion
  13. constipation
  14. continuing ringing or buzzing or other unexplained noise in the ears
  15. decreased urination
  16. discharge
  17. discouragement
  18. dry mouth
  19. excess air or gas in the stomach
  20. excessive tearing
  21. feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
  22. feeling sad or empty
  23. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  24. hair loss
  25. hearing loss
  26. hot flushes
  27. irritability
  28. loss of interest or pleasure
  29. nervousness
  30. pain or burning in the throat
  31. rapid breathing
  32. redness, pain, or swelling of the eye, eyelid, or inner lining of the eyelid
  33. sensation of spinning
  34. sleepiness
  35. sunken eyes
  36. thinning of the hair
  37. thirst
  38. trouble concentrating
  39. trouble sleeping
  40. wrinkled skin

Incidence not known

  1. Mood changes
  2. trouble getting pregnant
