Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Bloody or black, tarry stools
  2. dizziness
  3. fast, irregular, pounding, or racing heartbeat or pulse
  4. headache
  5. nausea
  6. nervousness
  7. pale skin
  8. pounding in the ears
  9. severe stomach pain
  10. stomach cramping or burning
  11. sweating
  12. unusual bleeding or bruising
  13. unusual tiredness or weakness
  14. vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds

Less common

  1. Burning feeling in the chest or stomach
  2. chest pain or discomfort
  3. decrease in the amount or frequency of urine
  4. difficult or labored breathing
  5. frequent urination
  6. lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting
  7. rapid or shallow breathing

Rare

  1. Bloody, cloudy, or dark urine
  2. clay-colored stools
  3. confusion
  4. difficult, burning, or painful urination
  5. difficulty with swallowing
  6. extreme tiredness or weakness
  7. hives, itching, or skin rash
  8. lower back or side pain
  9. nosebleeds
  10. swelling of the face, fingers, feet, or lower legs
  11. swollen glands
  12. tightness in the chest
  13. unpleasant breath odor
  14. upper right abdominal or stomach pain
  15. vomiting
  16. weight gain or loss
  17. yellow eyes or skin

Incidence not known

  1. Blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  2. difficulty with moving
  3. difficulty with speaking
  4. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  5. general body swelling
  6. joint or muscle pain
  7. pain or discomfort in the arms, jaw, back, or neck
  8. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  9. pale or blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  10. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  11. redness, soreness, or itching skin
  12. severe mood or mental changes
  13. sneezing
  14. sores, welts, or blisters
  15. swollen, painful, or tender lymph glands in the neck, armpit, or groin
  16. weakness or heaviness of the legs

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Belching
  2. continuing ringing or buzzing or other unexplained noise in the ears
  3. drowsiness
  4. feeling of fullness
  5. hearing loss
  6. nasal discomfort
  7. passing gas
  8. swelling or inflammation of the mouth

Less common

  1. Runny nose
  2. stuffy nose
  3. watering of the eyes

Rare

  1. Abnormal dreams
  2. abnormal taste
  3. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  4. excessive thirst
  5. inability to concentrate
  6. irritability or restlessness
  7. muscle trembling, jerking, or stiffness
  8. redness, swelling, or soreness of the tongue
  9. seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there
  10. sensation of spinning
  11. shakiness in the legs, arms, hands, or feet
  12. trouble concentrating
  13. trouble sleeping
  14. uncontrolled movements, especially of the face, neck, and back

Incidence not known

  1. Burning, dry, or itching eyes
  2. eye discharge or excessive tearing
  3. redness, pain, swelling of the eye, eyelid, or inner lining of the eyelid
  4. stiff neck or back
