Sunscreen: One dose doesn't do it

By Mayo Clinic staff

You can't smear on sunscreen in the morning and expect to be protected for a full day in the sun. To maximize sun protection, apply sunscreen 30 minutes before going outdoors and reapply every two hours. If possible, set your watch to remind you to reapply. Slather on sunscreen more often if you're swimming or sweating heavily.
