Rx check: Know what you're taking

By Mayo Clinic staff

"Don't ask, don't tell" is never a smart policy when it comes to medications and your health. Don't hesitate to ask questions or to tell your doctor or pharmacist if anything seems amiss. Before taking any medication, make sure you know these facts: 1. Its brand or generic name and what it's supposed to do. 2. How long it will be before you see results. 3. Any foods, drinks or other medications you should avoid while taking this medicine. 4. Possible side effects and what to do if they occur.
