Love to bike? Remember a helmet

By Mayo Clinic staff

A helmet is essential fitness gear for bikers. After all, without a helmet, you risk a head injury every time you head out on your bike. When you're choosing a bike helmet, remember the ground rules: 1. Make sure the helmet is safe. Look for a seal of approval from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). 2. Make sure the helmet fits snugly. You shouldn't be able to move the helmet more than 1 inch (2.5 centimeters) in any direction, front to back or side to side. 3. Think about visibility. Choose a white or brightly colored helmet that will be easy for motorists to see.
