Cook up ways to go low fat

By Mayo Clinic staff

Eliminating excess fat and calories are two of the healthiest cooking makeovers. Here are five easy ways to do this: 1. Use nonstick cookware so that you can brown food without adding fat. 2. Break unhealthy habits, such as automatically pouring gravy on potatoes. 3. Use healthier cooking methods, such as baking, broiling, steaming, poaching and roasting. 4. Keep on hand a variety of flavor enhancers, such as herbs, spices or flavored vinegars. 5. Use reduced-fat or fat-free creamed soups in casseroles.
