Causes

Knee bursitis can be caused by:

  • Frequent and sustained pressure, such as from kneeling
  • A direct blow to your knee
  • Frequent falls on your knee
  • Bacterial infection of the bursa
  • Complications from osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis or gout in your knee
