Intestinal ischemia

Illustration showing intestinal ischemia

The arteries that supply almost all of the blood needed by your digestive tract are the celiac artery, the superior mesenteric artery and the inferior mesenteric artery. Any or all of these arteries may be affected by atherosclerosis or blood clots, which, among other causes, can lead to reduced blood flow to the intestines (intestinal ischemia).
