Aortic valve calcification

Image of aortic valve calcification

Aortic valve thickening and calcification (sclerosis) is a condition in which calcium deposits form on the leaflets of the aortic valve in the heart. In most people, such calcium deposits cause no problems. But sometimes they can progress to cause narrowing at the opening of the aortic valve (aortic valve stenosis) and impair blood flow through it.
