Modified radical mastectomy

Illustration of modified radical mastectomy

Modified radical mastectomy removes the entire breast, including the breast tissue, skin, areola and nipple (see the shaded area). In some cases, one or more nearby lymph nodes may be removed. Modified radical mastectomy spares the chest wall muscles.
