Cleft palate

Illustration of a cleft palate

If an infant has a clef palate, the roof of the mouth (palate) isn't completely fused together. Subsequently, the lip and the bridge to the nose are also left open. An infant with DiGeorge syndrome may have a cleft palate or another less apparent abnormality affecting the structure and function of the palate.
