Ovarian cancer

Illustration of ovarian cancer

Early-stage ovarian cancer that is confined to one ovary may be treated by removing one ovary and one fallopian tube (unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy). For women with a more advanced stage of ovarian cancer, surgeons may recommend removing the uterus (hysterectomy), both ovaries and fallopian tubes (bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy) and additional procedures.
