Pancreas and kidney transplants

Image showing transplanted pancreas and kidney

A donor pancreas and kidney are placed in your lower abdomen. The ureter of the donor kidney — the tube that links the kidney to the bladder — is connected to your bladder. The donor pancreas with a small segment of donor duodenum is connected to either a loop of the recipient's small bowel or his or her bladder. The donor pancreas is connected to a segment of your small intestine. Your original pancreas and kidneys are often left in place unless they're causing complications.
