Dilation and curettage

In a dilation and curettage procedure (D&C), your doctor inserts a series of rods (dilators) of increasing thickness to open (dilate) your cervix and allow access to your uterus. Then your doctor inserts a long, thin instrument with a loop on the end (curette) through your cervix into your uterus and carefully removes the tissue lining the inside of the uterus.
