Get StartedPreparing for your appointment
By Mayo Clinic staffBecause appointments can be brief, it's a good idea to prepare ahead of time. Take a few minutes to write a list of your signs and symptoms so that you can better answer your doctor's questions. Be specific when describing any pain, numbness or weakness you're experiencing.
What to expect from your doctor
Your doctor is likely to ask you a number of questions. They may include:
- What are your symptoms? Do you feel pain, numbness, tingling or weakness?
- Where, specifically, are you feeling these symptoms?
- How long have you been experiencing these symptoms?
- Have your symptoms been continuous or occasional?
- Is there an activity or position that triggers your symptoms?
- Is there an activity or position that relieves your symptoms?
- Do you have a job or hobby that requires you to make repetitive motions?
