Sinus infection toothache: Can sinus problems cause tooth pain?

Can a toothache be caused by a sinus infection? My dentist can't find anything wrong with the tooth and thinks my tooth pain may be due to a sinus problem.

Yes, toothache can be a symptom of sinus infection (sinusitis) or inflammation. In fact, pain in the upper teeth is fairly common with sinus conditions due to the proximity of these upper teeth to the sinuses.

A thorough oral evaluation, which includes dental X-rays, can help determine if the source of tooth pain is dental in nature. Typical dental causes of tooth pain include:

Periodontal disease
Teeth grinding
Cavities
Abscesses

If a dental cause is ruled out, then it is reasonable to consult an ear, nose and throat doctor (otolaryngologist) to determine whether a sinus condition, such as sinus infection, is the culprit.
