Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

Less common

  1. Chest pain or tightness
  2. cold sweats
  3. cool, pale skin
  4. cough producing mucus
  5. difficult or labored breathing
  6. muscle aches, twitching or jerking, or weakness
  7. noisy breathing
  8. seizures

Rare

  1. Blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  2. bloating or swelling of the face, arms, hands, lower legs, or feet
  3. chills
  4. cough
  5. diarrhea
  6. difficulty with swallowing
  7. dizziness
  8. fast heartbeat
  9. hives, itching, skin rash
  10. joint or muscle pain
  11. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  12. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  13. red, irritated eyes
  14. sore throat
  15. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
  16. unusual tiredness or weakness

Incidence not known

  1. Blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  2. irregular, fast or slow, or shallow breathing
  3. loss of consciousness
  4. nausea
  5. severe constipation
  6. stomach cramps or pain
  7. vomiting

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Accidental injury
  2. blurred vision
  3. burning, tingling, numbness or pain in the hands, arms, feet, or legs
  4. change in walking and balance
  5. clumsiness
  6. confusion
  7. difficulty having a bowel movement
  8. difficulty with speaking
  9. double vision
  10. dry mouth
  11. false beliefs that cannot be changed by facts
  12. fever
  13. headache
  14. hoarseness
  15. increased appetite
  16. lack of coordination
  17. loss of memory
  18. lower back or side pain
  19. painful or difficult urination
  20. poor insight and judgment
  21. problems with memory or speech
  22. rapid weight gain
  23. sensation of pins and needles
  24. shakiness
  25. sleepiness
  26. stabbing pain
  27. trembling, or other problems with muscle control or coordination
  28. trouble recognizing objects
  29. trouble thinking and planning
  30. unsteady walk
  31. unusual drowsiness
  32. unusual weight gain or loss

Less common

  1. Anxiety
  2. bloated or feeling of fullness
  3. decrease or change in vision
  4. depression
  5. excess air or gas in the stomach or bowels
  6. eye disorder
  7. false or unusual sense of well-being
  8. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  9. increased hunger
  10. loss of appetite
  11. loss of bladder control
  12. loss of strength or energy
  13. nervousness
  14. nightmares
  15. pain
  16. passing gas
  17. rhythmic movement of the muscles
  18. runny nose
  19. shivering
  20. slurred speech
  21. sweating
  22. trouble sleeping
  23. twitching
  24. uncontrolled eye movements

Incidence not known

  1. Breast enlargement
  2. swelling of the breasts or breast soreness in both females and males

Other side effects not listed may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your healthcare professional.
