Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Bladder pain
  2. bloody or cloudy urine
  3. blurred vision
  4. body aches or pain
  5. chest tightness
  6. defects in intelligence, short-term memory, learning ability, and attention
  7. dizziness
  8. ear congestion
  9. headache
  10. loss of voice
  11. lower back or side pain
  12. mood or mental changes
  13. nervousness
  14. pale skin
  15. pounding in the ears
  16. runny or stuffy nose
  17. slow or fast heartbeat
  18. sneezing
  19. sore throat
  20. trouble sleeping
  21. trouble with breathing
  22. unusual bleeding or bruising
  23. unusual tiredness or weakness

Less common

  1. Agitation
  2. black, tarry stools
  3. bloody stools
  4. chest pain
  5. chills
  6. confusion
  7. constipation
  8. cough
  9. decreased awareness or responsiveness
  10. decreased urine output
  11. depressed mood
  12. difficult, burning, or painful urination
  13. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  14. dry skin and hair
  15. dilated neck veins
  16. fainting
  17. feeling cold
  18. fever
  19. frequent urge to urinate
  20. gaseous stomach pain
  21. hair loss
  22. hoarseness or husky voice
  23. hostility
  24. increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight
  25. irritability
  26. lightheadedness
  27. loss of consciousness
  28. muscle cramps, stiffness, and twitching
  29. nausea
  30. pounding in the ears
  31. rapid weight gain
  32. rapid, shallow breathing
  33. redness or other discoloration of the skin
  34. seizures
  35. sensitivity to heat
  36. severe sleepiness
  37. severe sunburn
  38. skin rash
  39. sneezing
  40. sore throat
  41. stomach pain and bloating
  42. sweating
  43. swelling of the face, ankles, or hands
  44. swelling of the finger, feet, or lower legs
  45. unusual drowsiness, dullness, or feeling of sluggishness
  46. vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds
  47. weight gain or loss
  48. yellow eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Bad unusual or unpleasant (after)taste
  2. belching
  3. change in taste
  4. decreased appetite
  5. diarrhea
  6. difficulty in moving
  7. feeling of warmth
  8. redness of the face, neck, arms and occasionally, upper chest
  9. hair color changes
  10. heartburn
  11. increased tearing
  12. indigestion
  13. muscle pain or stiffness
  14. pain in the joints
  15. skin rash
  16. stomach discomfort, upset, or pain
  17. swelling of the eye, eyelid, or inner lining of the eyelid
  18. vomiting

Less common

  1. Redness or pain of the skin
  2. scaling of the skin on the hands and feet
  3. tingling of the hands and feet
  4. ulceration of the skin
