Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Backache
  2. blurred vision
  3. body aches or pain
  4. chest pain or tightness
  5. chills
  6. cough
  7. difficulty with breathing
  8. dizziness
  9. ear congestion
  10. earache
  11. facial hair growth in females
  12. fever
  13. fractures
  14. full or round face, neck, or trunk
  15. headache
  16. increased thirst or urination
  17. irritability
  18. loss of sexual desire or ability
  19. loss of voice
  20. menstrual irregularities
  21. muscle wasting
  22. nervousness
  23. pounding in the ears
  24. redness or swelling in the ear
  25. runny or stuffy nose
  26. seizures
  27. slow or fast heartbeat
  28. sneezing
  29. sore throat
  30. unusual tiredness or weakness
  31. white patches in the mouth or throat or on the tongue
  32. white patches with diaper rash

Incidence not known

  1. Accumulation of pus
  2. bruising
  3. bulging soft spot on the head of an infant
  4. change in the ability to see colors, especially blue or yellow
  5. decreased range of motion
  6. decreased urine output
  7. dilated neck veins
  8. extreme tiredness or weakness
  9. eyeballs bulge out of the eye sockets
  10. fast, weak pulse
  11. full or bloated feeling
  12. heartburn
  13. irregular breathing
  14. irregular heartbeat
  15. joint pain
  16. large, flat, blue, or purplish patches in the skin
  17. lightheadedness
  18. limp
  19. loss of appetite
  20. nausea
  21. noisy, rattling breathing
  22. pressure in the stomach
  23. severe headache
  24. slow healing
  25. small red or purple spots on the skin
  26. swelling of the stomach area
  27. swelling of the face, fingers, feet, or lower legs
  28. swollen, red, or tender area of infection
  29. trouble sleeping
  30. vomiting
  31. weight gain

Incidence not known-For adults only

  1. Bloating
  2. cold clammy skin
  3. confusion
  4. constipation
  5. coughing up blood
  6. dark urine
  7. feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
  8. headache, sudden and severe
  9. increased sweating
  10. indigestion
  11. loss of appetite
  12. pain in the muscles
  13. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  14. redness of the face
  15. sensation of spinning
  16. skin rash
  17. sweating
  18. thinning of the skin
  19. unusual weight loss
  20. weakness
  21. yellow eyes or skin

Incidence not known-For infants only

  1. Diarrhea
  2. dry mouth
  3. excess air or gas in the stomach or bowels
  4. mood changes
  5. muscle pain or cramps
  6. numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips
  7. passing gas
  8. problems with speech or speaking

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Blemishes on the skin
  2. diarrhea
  3. pimples

Less common

  1. Changes in appetite

Incidence not known

  1. Bleeding, blistering, burning, coldness, discoloration of skin, feeling of pressure, hives, infection, inflammation, itching, lumps, numbness, pain, rash, redness, scarring, soreness, stinging, swelling, tenderness, tingling, ulceration, or warmth at the injection site
  2. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  3. increased hair growth, especially on the face
  4. muscle weakness
  5. unusual drowsiness, dullness, tiredness, weakness or feeling of sluggishness
