Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. chills
  3. cough
  4. fever
  5. lower back or side pain
  6. painful or difficult urination
  7. pale skin
  8. sore throat
  9. trouble breathing
  10. ulcers, sores, or white spots in the mouth
  11. unusual bleeding or bruising
  12. unusual tiredness or weakness

Less common

  1. Increased heart rate
  2. increase in blood pressure

Incidence not known

  1. Anger
  2. bladder pain
  3. blistering, burning, crusting, dryness, flaking, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  4. bloody nose
  5. bloody or cloudy urine
  6. bloody vomit
  7. blurred vision
  8. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  9. chest pain, discomfort, or tightness
  10. dark urine
  11. delusions of persecution, mistrust, suspiciousness, or combativeness
  12. diarrhea
  13. difficulty in speaking
  14. discouragement
  15. dizziness
  16. fast, slow, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse
  17. fear, nervousness
  18. feeling sad or empty
  19. frequent urge to urinate
  20. hives, itching, skin rash
  21. irritability
  22. joint or muscle pain
  23. lack of appetite
  24. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or sex organs
  25. light-colored stools
  26. loss of interest or pleasure
  27. mood swings
  28. muscle cramps, spasms, pain, or stiffness
  29. nausea
  30. pain or discomfort in the arms, jaw, back, or neck
  31. paleness or cold feeling in the fingertips and toes
  32. pounding in the ears
  33. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  34. red irritated eyes
  35. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  36. restlessness
  37. scaling, severe redness, soreness, or swelling of the skin
  38. seizures
  39. severe stomach pain
  40. shakiness in the legs, arms, hands, or feet
  41. sleepiness or unusual drowsiness
  42. sweating
  43. swelling of the feet or lower legs
  44. tingling or pain in the fingers or toes when exposed to cold
  45. trembling or shaking of the hands or feet
  46. trouble concentrating
  47. trouble sleeping
  48. twitching, twisting, uncontrolled repetitive movements of the tongue, lips, face, arms, or legs
  49. upper right abdominal or stomach pain
  50. vomiting
  51. weight decreased
  52. yellow eyes and skin

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Aggressive
  2. agitation
  3. angry
  4. blurred vision
  5. change in consciousness
  6. chest pain or discomfort
  7. confusion
  8. diarrhea
  9. dark urine
  10. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  11. fainting
  12. fast breathing
  13. fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat
  14. fever
  15. headache
  16. inability to speak
  17. loss of consciousness
  18. muscle cramps, spasms, pain, or stiffness
  19. nausea
  20. nervousness
  21. overactive reflexes
  22. pain or discomfort in the arms, jaw, back, or neck
  23. pale, clammy skin
  24. palpitations
  25. pounding in the ears
  26. restlessness
  27. seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there
  28. seizures
  29. shivering
  30. slow or fast heartbeat
  31. slurred speech
  32. stomach cramps
  33. sweating
  34. talking or acting with excitement you cannot control
  35. temporary blindness
  36. thirst
  37. tremor
  38. trouble breathing
  39. unusual tiredness or weakness
  40. vomiting

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Decreased appetite
  2. headache

Incidence not known

  1. Bigger, dilated, or enlarged pupils (black part of eye)
  2. change in taste
  3. constipation
  4. decreased interest in sexual intercourse
  5. double vision
  6. inability to have or keep an erection
  7. increased sensitivity of the eyes to light
  8. loss in sexual ability, desire, drive, or performance
  9. loss of taste
  10. loss or thinning of the hair
  11. seeing double
