Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. blurred vision
  3. body aches or pain
  4. bone pain
  5. chest pain
  6. chills
  7. cough
  8. dizziness
  9. dry mouth
  10. ear congestion
  11. fever
  12. flushed, dry skin
  13. fruit-like breath odor
  14. headache
  15. increased hunger
  16. increased thirst
  17. increased urination
  18. itching, skin rash
  19. loss of voice
  20. nausea
  21. nervousness
  22. pain, redness, or swelling in the arm or leg
  23. painful or difficult urination
  24. pounding in the ears
  25. runny or stuffy nose
  26. slow or fast heartbeat
  27. sneezing
  28. sore throat
  29. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  30. stomach pain
  31. swollen glands
  32. tenderness, pain, swelling, warmth, skin discoloration, and prominent superficial veins over the affected area
  33. trouble breathing
  34. unexplained weight loss
  35. unusual bleeding or bruising
  36. unusual tiredness or weakness
  37. vomiting

Less common

  1. Anxiety
  2. decreased urine
  3. difficulty swallowing
  4. fainting
  5. irregular heartbeat
  6. loss of appetite
  7. mood changes
  8. muscle pain or cramps
  9. numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips
  10. seizures
  11. swelling

Incidence not known

  1. Blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  2. dark urine
  3. diarrhea
  4. fluid-filled skin blisters
  5. hives
  6. joint pain
  7. light-colored stools
  8. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  9. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  10. red, irritated eyes
  11. sensitivity to the sun
  12. skin thinness
  13. tightness in the chest
  14. yellow eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Decreased weight
  2. difficulty in moving
  3. injection site irritation or pain
  4. muscle spasm or stiffness
  5. swelling or inflammation of the mouth
  6. swollen joints
  7. trouble sleeping

Less common

  1. Discouragement
  2. feeling sad or empty
  3. irritability
  4. loss of interest or pleasure
  5. trouble concentrating
