Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Cough or hoarseness
  2. fever or chills
  3. lower back or side pain
  4. painful or difficult urination

Incidence not known

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. bleeding gums
  3. blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  4. bloating
  5. blood in the urine or stools
  6. changes in behavior
  7. chest pain
  8. darkened urine
  9. diarrhea
  10. difficulty having a bowel movement
  11. fast heartbeat
  12. general tiredness and weakness
  13. indigestion
  14. itching
  15. joint or muscle pain
  16. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or sex organs
  17. light-colored stools
  18. loss of appetite
  19. nausea and vomiting
  20. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  21. pale skin
  22. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  23. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  24. red, irritated eyes
  25. restlessness or agitation
  26. sore throat
  27. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
  28. swollen glands
  29. thoughts or attempts at killing oneself
  30. twitching, twisting, or uncontrolled repetitive movements of the tongue, lips, face, arms, or legs
  31. uncontrolled jerking or twisting movements of the hands, arms, or legs
  32. uncontrolled movements of the lips, tongue, or cheeks
  33. unusual bleeding or bruising
  34. unusual tiredness or weakness
  35. upper right abdominal or stomach pain
  36. yellow eyes or skin

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Anxiety
  2. attack, assault, or force
  3. decrease, loss, or change in consciousness
  4. difficult or troubled breathing
  5. dry mouth
  6. hyperventilation
  7. irregular, fast or slow, or shallow breathing
  8. irregular heartbeats
  9. irritability
  10. pale or blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  11. restlessness
  12. shaking
  13. sleepiness or unusual drowsiness
  14. trouble sleeping

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Body aches or pain
  2. dizziness
  3. headache
  4. lack or loss of strength
  5. pain
  6. stuffy or runny nose
  7. tender, swollen glands in the neck
  8. trouble swallowing
  9. voice changes

Less common

  1. Aggressive or angry
  2. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  3. crying
  4. depersonalization
  5. discouragement
  6. double vision or seeing double
  7. dysphoria
  8. euphoria
  9. feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
  10. feeling sad or empty
  11. lightheadedness
  12. loss of interest or pleasure
  13. loss of memory
  14. loss or lack of appetite
  15. pain or tenderness around the eyes and cheekbones
  16. paranoia
  17. problems with memory
  18. quick to react or overreact emotionally
  19. rapidly changing moods
  20. rash
  21. sensation of spinning
  22. shakiness and unsteady walk
  23. sneezing
  24. stuffy nose
  25. tiredness
  26. trouble concentrating
  27. unsteadiness, trembling, or other problems with muscle control or coordination
  28. weight loss

Incidence not known

  1. Hair loss or thinning of the hair
