Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Confusion
  2. decreased urine
  3. dizziness
  4. dry mouth
  5. fast or irregular heartbeat
  6. increased thirst
  7. loss of appetite
  8. mood changes
  9. muscle pain or cramps
  10. nausea
  11. numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips
  12. seizures
  13. unusual tiredness or weakness
  14. vomiting

Less common

  1. Blurred vision
  2. bone pain
  3. chest tightness
  4. difficult or labored breathing
  5. dizziness, fainting, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  6. drowsiness
  7. extremely shallow or slow breathing
  8. fainting
  9. fever
  10. muscle spasms (tetany) or twitching seizures
  11. numbness and tingling around the mouth, fingertips, or feet
  12. pale skin
  13. stomach cramps
  14. sweating
  15. trembling
  16. tremor
  17. unusual bleeding or bruising

Incidence not known

  1. Anxiety
  2. chills
  3. cold sweats
  4. coma
  5. cool, pale skin
  6. cough
  7. darkening of the skin
  8. difficulty swallowing
  9. headache
  10. hives, itching, skin rash
  11. increased hunger
  12. increased sensitivity to pain
  13. mental depression
  14. nervousness
  15. nightmares
  16. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  17. shakiness
  18. slurred speech
  19. worsening of pain

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Bigger, dilated, or enlarged pupils (black part of the eye)
  2. chest pain or discomfort
  3. cold and clammy skin
  4. confusion
  5. constricted pupils
  6. coughing that sometimes produces a pink frothy sputum
  7. increased sensitivity of the eyes to light
  8. irregular, fast or slow, or shallow breathing
  9. loss of consciousness
  10. no muscle tone or movement
  11. pale or blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  12. slow heartbeat
  13. swelling in the legs and ankles

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Back pain
  2. constipation
  3. feeling of warmth
  4. redness of the face, neck, arms, and occasionally, upper chest

Less common

  1. Belching
  2. diarrhea
  3. heartburn
  4. indigestion
  5. muscle spasm
  6. pale skin, pain, or redness at the injection site
  7. passing gas
  8. restlessness
  9. stomach discomfort, upset, or pain
  10. trouble sleeping
