Proper Use

Take this medicine only as directed by your doctor. Do not take more of it, do not take it more often, and do not take it for a longer time than your doctor ordered.

This medicine comes with a patient information leaflet. Read and follow the instructions carefully. Ask your doctor if you have any questions.

Measure the oral liquid medicine with a marked oral syringe or medicine cup. Do not use a household measuring cup.

You may also give this medicine using a gastrostomy tube.

You may take this medicine with or without food.

Do not take laxatives before starting treatment with this medicine.

Dosing

The dose of this medicine will be different for different patients. Follow your doctor's orders or the directions on the label. The following information includes only the average doses of this medicine. If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do so.

The amount of medicine that you take depends on the strength of the medicine. Also, the number of doses you take each day, the time allowed between doses, and the length of time you take the medicine depend on the medical problem for which you are using the medicine.

  • For oral dosage form (solution):
    • For Rett syndrome:
      • Adults and children 2 years of age and older—Dose is based on body weight and must be determined by your doctor.
        • Weighing 50 kilograms (kg) or more—12,000 milligrams (mg) or 60 milliliters (mL) 2 times a day. Your doctor may adjust your dose as needed.
        • Weighing 35 kg to less than 50 kg—10,000 mg or 50 mL 2 times a day. Your doctor may adjust your dose as needed.
        • Weighing 20 kg to less than 35 kg—8,000 mg or 40 mL 2 times a day. Your doctor may adjust your dose as needed.
        • Weighing 12 kg to less than 20 kg—6,000 mg or 30 mL 2 times a day. Your doctor may adjust your dose as needed.
        • Weighing 9 kg to less than 12 kg—5,000 mg or 25 mL 2 times a day. Your doctor may adjust your dose as needed.
      • Children younger than 2 years of age—Use and dose must be determined by your doctor.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose of this medicine, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses.

If you vomit after taking your medicine, do not take an extra dose.

Storage

Keep the bottle closed when you are not using it. Keep it in the refrigerator. Do not freeze.

Keep out of the reach of children.

Do not keep outdated medicine or medicine no longer needed.

Ask your healthcare professional how you should dispose of any medicine you do not use.

Throw away any unused medicine 14 days after opening the bottle.
