Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. bleeding gums
  3. body aches or pain
  4. burning, tingling, numbness, or pain in the hands, arms, feet, or legs
  5. chest pain or discomfort
  6. chills
  7. cloudy urine
  8. cough
  9. cracks in the skin
  10. decreased urine output
  11. difficult or labored breathing
  12. dilated neck veins
  13. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  14. ear congestion
  15. extreme tiredness or weakness
  16. fever
  17. irregular breathing
  18. irregular heartbeat
  19. lack or loss of strength
  20. lightheadedness
  21. loss of appetite
  22. loss of heat from the body
  23. loss of voice
  24. mood changes
  25. nervousness
  26. pain, redness, or swelling in the arm or leg
  27. painful or difficult urination
  28. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  29. pounding in the ears
  30. rapid breathing
  31. redness
  32. runny or stuffy nose
  33. seizures
  34. sensation of pins and needles
  35. slow or fast heartbeat
  36. sore throat
  37. sores on the skin
  38. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  39. stabbing pain
  40. sunken eyes
  41. sweating
  42. swelling of the face, fingers, feet, or lower legs
  43. swelling or inflammation of the mouth
  44. swollen glands
  45. thirst
  46. tightness in the chest
  47. trouble breathing
  48. unusual bleeding or bruising
  49. unusual tiredness or weakness
  50. vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds
  51. watery or bloody diarrhea
  52. weight gain
  53. wrinkled skin
  54. yellow skin

Less common

  1. Bone pain
  2. difficulty with swallowing
  3. fainting
  4. severe constipation
  5. severe vomiting
  6. stomach pain or tenderness

Rare

  1. Back pain
  2. blisters
  3. blurred vision
  4. confusion
  5. dizziness
  6. drowsiness
  7. headache
  8. increased thirst
  9. loss of consciousness
  10. muscle pain or cramps
  11. open sores
  12. pale skin

Incidence not known

  1. Bloody mucus or unexplained nosebleeds
  2. constipation
  3. diarrhea
  4. heartburn
  5. heavy jaw feeling
  6. high fever
  7. hoarseness
  8. indigestion
  9. loosening of a tooth
  10. nausea
  11. pain, swelling, or numbness in the mouth or jaw
  12. severe stomach pain
  13. stomach cramping or burning
  14. stomach pain, usually after eating a meal
  15. sudden weakness in the arms or legs
  16. sudden, severe chest pain
  17. unexplained bleeding or bruising
  18. unusual tiredness or weakness
  19. voice changes

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Belching
  2. change in taste or bad unusual or unpleasant (after) taste
  3. change in walking and balance
  4. clumsiness or unsteadiness
  5. dry mouth
  6. excess flow of tears
  7. hair loss or thinning of hair
  8. stomach discomfort or upset
  9. weight loss
