Dr. Starlinger is a hepatobiliary and pancreas surgeon. He particularly focuses on complex surgical procedures of the liver, bile duct and the pancreas as well as the multidisciplinary treatment of pathologies affecting these organs. His additional colorectal, transplant and vascular surgery training are a unique prerequisite for his practice. His continued dedication to research allows him to deliver state of the art patient care at the current state of knowledge.

Dr. Starlinger completed his medical school and residency training in general surgery at the University of Vienna, Austria. His training continued with a fellowship in Visceral Surgery in Bern Switzerland and Vascular as well as Transplant Surgery in Vienna. He completed a fellowship in HPB surgery here at Mayo Clinic, Rochester in July 2021. He was a consultant surgeon and Associate Professor of Surgery at the Medical University of Vienna from 2017-2019 and from 2021-2022. He has been recognized for his excellence in clinical surgery and teaching including being recognized as "Fellow Teacher of the Year" in 2020 and 2021 in the Department of Surgery, Mayo Clinic.

Dr. Starlinger completed a PhD in oncology and a post-doctoral fellowship in angiogenesis and liver regeneration. He has a basic science and translational research program and earned multiple awards as well as significant funding for his research. His main areas of research include:
