Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. bleeding gums
  3. blood in the urine or stools
  4. chest pain
  5. cough or hoarseness, accompanied by fever or chills
  6. fever or chills
  7. lower back or side pain, accompanied by fever or chills
  8. painful or difficult urination, accompanied by fever or chills
  9. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  10. shortness of breath
  11. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  12. swollen glands
  13. troubled breathing with exertion
  14. unusual bleeding or bruising
  15. unusual tiredness or weakness

Less common

  1. Itching
  2. joint pain
  3. large, swollen hives
  4. skin rash
  5. swelling of the feet or lower legs

Rare

  1. Blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  2. diarrhea
  3. muscle pain
  4. muscle twitching
  5. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  6. red, irritated eyes
  7. seizures
  8. shakiness and unsteady walk
  9. shakiness in the legs, arms, hands, or feet
  10. sore throat
  11. sudden jerky movements of the body
  12. unsteadiness, trembling, or other problems with muscle control or coordination

Incidence not known

  1. Abdominal or stomach pain or tenderness
  2. bone pain
  3. clay colored stools
  4. dark urine
  5. decreased appetite
  6. difficult breathing
  7. headache
  8. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or sex organs
  9. loss of appetite
  10. trouble getting pregnant
  11. troubled or quick, shallow breathing
  12. yellow eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

Less common

  1. Changes in menstrual period
  2. nausea and vomiting

Rare

  1. Anxiety
  2. confusion
  3. dry mouth
  4. hyperventilation
  5. irregular heartbeats
  6. irritability
  7. no muscle tone or movement
  8. restlessness
  9. seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there
  10. trouble sleeping

Incidence not known

  1. Hives or welts
