Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

For both females and males

Less common
  1. Acne
  2. dark-colored urine
  3. increased oiliness of the hair or skin
  4. muscle cramps or spasms
  5. rapid weight gain
  6. swelling of the feet or lower legs
  7. unusual tiredness or weakness
Rare
  1. Bleeding gums
  2. bloating, pain, or tenderness of the abdomen or stomach
  3. blood in the urine
  4. burning, numbness, pain, or tingling in all fingers except the smallest finger
  5. changes in vision
  6. chest pain
  7. chills
  8. complete or partial numbness or weakness on one side of body
  9. cough
  10. coughing up blood
  11. diarrhea
  12. difficulty with speaking
  13. difficulty with swallowing
  14. discharge from the nipple
  15. eye pain
  16. fast heartbeat
  17. fever
  18. headache
  19. hives or other skin rash
  20. joint pain
  21. light-colored stools
  22. loss of appetite (continuing)
  23. loss of muscle coordination
  24. more frequent nosebleeds
  25. muscle aches
  26. nausea
  27. purple- or red-colored, or other spots on the body or inside the mouth or nose
  28. restlessness
  29. shortness of breath
  30. sore throat
  31. sweating
  32. tingling, numbness, or weakness in the legs, which may move upward to the arms, trunk, or face
  33. unusual bruising or bleeding
  34. unusual tiredness, weakness, or general feeling of illness
  35. vomiting
  36. yellow eyes or skin

For females only

More common
  1. Decrease in the breast size
  2. irregular menstrual periods
  3. weight gain
Rare
  1. Enlarged clitoris
  2. hoarseness or deepening of voice
  3. unnatural hair growth

For males only

Rare
  1. Changes in semen
  2. decrease in the size of the testicles

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

For both females and males

Less common
  1. Flushing or redness of the skin
  2. mood or mental changes
  3. nervousness
Rare
  1. Increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight

For females only

Less common
  1. Burning, dryness, or itching of the vagina
  2. vaginal bleeding

Other side effects not listed may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your healthcare professional.
