Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

Less common

  1. Bloody, black, or tarry stools
  2. diarrhea
  3. fever
  4. vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds

Rare

  1. Drowsiness
  2. loss of appetite
  3. mood or mental changes
  4. muscle spasms (tetany) or twitching
  5. nausea
  6. seizures
  7. trembling
  8. unusual tiredness or weakness
  9. vomiting

Incidence not known

  1. Agitation
  2. back pain
  3. blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  4. bloating
  5. bloody or cloudy urine
  6. blurred vision
  7. bone fracture
  8. chest pain or tightness
  9. confusion
  10. constipation
  11. cough
  12. darkened urine
  13. decreased urine
  14. difficulty breathing
  15. difficulty with swallowing
  16. dizziness
  17. dry mouth
  18. fast heartbeat
  19. fever with or without chills
  20. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  21. greatly decreased frequency of urination or amount of urine
  22. headache
  23. high fever
  24. hoarseness
  25. indigestion
  26. irritability
  27. joint or muscle pain
  28. light-colored stools
  29. loss of consciousness
  30. lower back or side pain
  31. muscle aches, cramps, stiffness, or weakness
  32. nausea
  33. noisy breathing
  34. numbness and tingling around the mouth, fingertips, or feet
  35. painful or difficult urination
  36. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  37. pale skin
  38. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  39. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  40. red, irritated eyes
  41. skin rash, hives, or itching
  42. sore throat
  43. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
  44. stiff neck
  45. stomach cramps
  46. stomach pain, continuing
  47. swelling of the feet or lower legs
  48. swelling or inflammation of the mouth
  49. swollen glands
  50. tenderness
  51. unusual bleeding or bruising
  52. upper right stomach pain
  53. watery or bloody diarrhea
  54. yellow eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Belching
  2. heartburn
  3. stomach discomfort or upset

Less common

  1. Burning, itching, redness, skin rash, swelling, or soreness at the injection site
  2. difficulty having a bowel movement
  3. dryness of the mouth
  4. feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
  5. gas
  6. pain or tenderness around the eyes and cheekbones
  7. sensation of spinning
  8. sneezing
  9. stuffy or runny nose

Incidence not known

  1. Aggression
  2. bad unusual or unpleasant (after) taste
  3. change in taste
  4. decreased interest in sexual intercourse
  5. difficulty in moving
  6. discouragement
  7. feeling sad or empty
  8. inability to have or keep an erection
  9. increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight
  10. joint swelling
  11. loss of interest or pleasure
  12. loss in sexual ability, desire, drive, or performance
  13. redness or discoloration of the skin
  14. seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there
  15. severe sunburn
  16. swelling of the breasts or breast soreness in both females and males
  17. thinning or loss of hair
  18. trouble concentrating
  19. trouble sleeping
