Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

For all adults

More common
  1. Discouragement
  2. feeling sad or empty
  3. lack of appetite
  4. loss of interest or pleasure
  5. tiredness
  6. trouble concentrating
  7. trouble sleeping
Less common
  1. Bladder pain
  2. bloody or cloudy urine
  3. blurred vision
  4. difficult, burning, or painful urination
  5. dizziness
  6. fast or irregular heartbeat
  7. frequent urge to urinate
  8. headache
  9. lower back or side pain
  10. nervousness
  11. pounding in the ears
  12. slow or fast heartbeat
  13. trouble in urinating
Rare
  1. Bone, muscle, or joint pain
  2. changes in skin color of the face
  3. chest tightness
  4. fainting
  5. fast or irregular breathing
  6. numbness or tingling of the hands or feet
  7. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes
  8. skin rash, hives, or itching
  9. sudden, severe decrease in blood pressure and collapse
  10. trouble breathing

For females only

More common
  1. Breast pain
  2. itching of the vaginal or genital area
  3. pain during sexual intercourse
  4. thick, white vaginal discharge with no odor or with a mild odor
Rare
  1. Anxiety
  2. deepening of voice
  3. increased hair growth
  4. mental depression
  5. mood changes

For males only

More common
  1. Abnormal ejaculation
  2. black, tarry stools
  3. blood in the stools
  4. bloody or cloudy urine
  5. continuing diarrhea
  6. continuing stomach pain
  7. decreased sexual performance or desire
Less common
  1. Ankle, knee, or great toe joint pain
  2. anxiety
  3. breast swelling and tenderness
  4. chest pain or discomfort
  5. chills
  6. cold hands and feet
  7. constipation
  8. dry mouth
  9. flushed, dry skin
  10. fruit-like breath odor
  11. increased hunger
  12. increased thirst
  13. increased urination
  14. increased weight
  15. joint stiffness or swelling
  16. nausea
  17. pain or discomfort in the arms, jaw, back, or neck
  18. pale skin
  19. swelling of the face, fingers, or lower legs
  20. unexplained weight loss
  21. unusual bleeding or bruising
  22. unusual tiredness or weakness
  23. vomiting
Rare
  1. Chest pain
  2. pain in the groin or legs (especially in the calves of the legs)

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

For all adults

More common
  1. Sudden sweating and feelings of warmth (also called hot flashes)
Less common
  1. Blurred vision
  2. burning, itching, redness, or swelling at the place of injection
  3. decreased interest in sexual intercourse
  4. dizziness
  5. headache
  6. nausea or vomiting
  7. swelling and increased tenderness of the breasts
  8. swelling of the feet or lower legs
  9. trouble sleeping
  10. weight gain

For females only

More common
  1. Back pain
  2. body aches or pain
  3. cough
  4. crying
  5. depersonalization
  6. difficulty in moving
  7. dryness or soreness of the throat
  8. dysphoria
  9. euphoria
  10. excessive muscle tone
  11. increased hair growth, especially on the face
  12. lack or loss of strength
  13. light, irregular vaginal bleeding
  14. muscle aches, stiffness, pains, or cramps
  15. paranoia
  16. quick to react or overreact emotionally
  17. rapidly changing moods
  18. stopping of menstrual periods
  19. stuffy or runny nose
  20. tender, swollen glands in the neck
  21. trouble in swallowing
  22. voice changes
Less common
  1. Acid or sour stomach
  2. belching
  3. bloated
  4. bloody nose
  5. burning, dryness, or itching of the vagina
  6. dry mouth
  7. dry skin
  8. excess air or gas in the stomach or intestines
  9. full feeling
  10. heartburn
  11. impaired vision
  12. indigestion
  13. loss or thinning of the hair
  14. passing gas
  15. pelvic pain
  16. stomach discomfort, upset, or pain

For males only

Less common
  1. Bone pain
  2. constipation
  3. decreased size of the testicles
  4. inability to have or keep an erection
