Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Headache
  2. itching, skin rash
  3. nausea
  4. stomach pain
  5. swelling

Less common

  1. Burning feeling in the chest or stomach
  2. indigestion
  3. stomach tenderness or upset
  4. swelling or inflammation of the mouth
  5. vomiting

Rare

  1. Bleeding gums
  2. blistering, peeling, loosening of the skin
  3. bloody or black, tarry stools
  4. bloody or cloudy urine
  5. burning upper abdominal or stomach pain
  6. changes in vision
  7. chest pain or tightness
  8. chills
  9. clay-colored stools
  10. constipation
  11. cough
  12. dark-colored urine
  13. diarrhea
  14. difficulty swallowing
  15. dizziness
  16. dry cough
  17. dry mouth
  18. fast heartbeat
  19. fever
  20. fluid-filled skin blisters
  21. greatly decreased frequency of urination or amount of urine
  22. hives or welts
  23. increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight
  24. increased thirst
  25. joint pain, stiffness, or swelling
  26. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, sex organs
  27. light-colored stools
  28. loss of appetite
  29. lower back or side pain
  30. muscle pain
  31. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  32. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  33. rapid breathing
  34. red irritated eyes
  35. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  36. redness or other discoloration of the skin
  37. severe sunburn
  38. skin thinness
  39. sore throat
  40. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
  41. stomach bloating, burning, cramping, or pain
  42. swelling of the face, fingers, feet or lower legs
  43. trouble breathing
  44. unpleasant breath odor
  45. unusual bleeding or bruising
  46. unusual tiredness or weakness
  47. vaginal bleeding
  48. vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds
  49. weight gain or loss
  50. yellow eyes or skin

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Agitation
  2. blurred vision
  3. coma
  4. confusion
  5. depression
  6. hostility
  7. irregular, fast or slow, or shallow breathing
  8. irritability
  9. muscle twitching
  10. nervousness
  11. pain or discomfort in the chest, upper stomach, or throat
  12. pale or blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  13. pounding in the ears
  14. seizures
  15. severe stomach pain
  16. slow heartbeat
  17. stupor
  18. unusual drowsiness, dullness, or feeling of sluggishness

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Acid or sour stomach
  2. belching
  3. bloated full feeling
  4. continuing ringing or buzzing or other unexplained noise in the ears
  5. excess air or gas in the stomach or intestines
  6. hearing loss
  7. indigestion
  8. mild diarrhea
  9. passing gas

Less common

  1. Increased sweating
  2. sleepiness or unusual drowsiness
  3. trouble sleeping

Rare

  1. Anxiety
  2. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  3. feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
  4. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  5. increased appetite
  6. lack or loss of strength
  7. lightheadedness
  8. sensation of spinning
  9. trembling or shaking of the legs, arms, hands, or feet

Other side effects not listed may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your healthcare professional.
