Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Acid or sour stomach
  2. belching
  3. constipation
  4. headache
  5. heartburn
  6. nausea or vomiting
  7. skin rash
  8. stomach pain

Less common

  1. Excess air or gas in the stomach or intestines
  2. itching skin
  3. passing gas
  4. stomach cramps
  5. swelling
  6. weight loss

Rare

  1. Back or leg pains
  2. bleeding gums
  3. blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  4. bloating
  5. bloody or black, tarry stools
  6. bloody or cloudy urine
  7. blurred or loss of vision
  8. burning feeling in the chest or stomach
  9. burning while urinating
  10. chest pain
  11. chills
  12. clay-colored stools
  13. confusion
  14. cough or hoarseness
  15. cracks in the skin
  16. dark urine
  17. decreased urine output
  18. diarrhea
  19. difficult or labored breathing
  20. difficult or painful urination
  21. difficulty with swallowing
  22. dilated neck veins
  23. discoloration of urine
  24. disturbed color perception
  25. dizziness
  26. double vision
  27. extreme fatigue
  28. eye pain
  29. fainting
  30. feeling of warmth
  31. fever
  32. flu-like symptoms
  33. general body swelling
  34. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  35. groin pain
  36. halos around lights
  37. hives
  38. increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight
  39. increased sweating
  40. increased thirst
  41. indigestion
  42. irregular breathing
  43. joint or muscle pain
  44. large, flat, blue, or purplish patches in the skin
  45. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or sex organs
  46. light-colored stools
  47. loss of appetite
  48. loss of heat from the body
  49. lower back or side pain
  50. muscle aches, pains, or weakness
  51. nervousness
  52. night blindness
  53. noisy breathing
  54. nosebleeds
  55. numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips
  56. overbright appearance of lights
  57. painful or difficult urination
  58. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  59. pale skin
  60. persistent bleeding or oozing from puncture sites, mouth, or nose
  61. pinpoint red or purple spots on the skin
  62. pounding in the ears
  63. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  64. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  65. red, irritated eyes
  66. redness of the face, neck, arms and occasionally, upper chest
  67. redness or other discoloration of the skin
  68. redness, swelling, or soreness of the tongue
  69. scaly skin
  70. seizures
  71. severe or continuing stomach pain
  72. severe sunburn
  73. shortness of breath
  74. slow or fast, irregular, pounding, or racing heartbeat or pulse
  75. sore throat
  76. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
  77. stiff neck or back
  78. stomach upset
  79. swelling of the face, fingers, feet, or lower legs
  80. swelling or inflammation of the mouth
  81. swollen or painful glands
  82. tenderness in the stomach area
  83. tightness in the chest
  84. troubled breathing
  85. tunnel vision
  86. unpleasant breath odor
  87. unusual bleeding or bruising
  88. unusual tiredness or weakness
  89. upper right abdominal pain
  90. vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds
  91. watery or bloody diarrhea
  92. weakness or heaviness of the legs
  93. weight gain
  94. wheezing
  95. yellow eyes or skin

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Change in consciousness
  2. decreased awareness or responsiveness
  3. loss of consciousness
  4. severe sleepiness

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

Less common

  1. Continuing ringing or buzzing or other unexplained noise in the ears
  2. hearing loss

Rare

  1. Burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  2. burning, dry, or itching eyes
  3. decreased hearing
  4. difficulty with moving
  5. discharge, excessive tearing
  6. discouragement
  7. false sense of well-being
  8. feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
  9. feeling sad or empty
  10. hair loss or thinning of the hair
  11. hallucinations
  12. irritability
  13. loss of interest or pleasure
  14. metallic or bitter taste
  15. mood swings
  16. muscle cramping or stiffness
  17. personality changes
  18. redness, pain, or swelling of the eye, eyelid, or inner lining of the eyelid
  19. restlessness
  20. sensation of spinning
  21. sleepiness or unusual drowsiness
  22. sleeplessness
  23. sore or dry mucous membranes
  24. swelling or redness in the joints
  25. trouble with concentrating
  26. trouble with sleeping
  27. unable to sleep
  28. vaginal bleeding
