Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. chills
  3. cough
  4. feeling of fullness
  5. fever
  6. lower back or side pain
  7. painful or difficult urination
  8. pale skin
  9. right upper abdominal pain and fullness
  10. sore throat
  11. stomach pain
  12. swelling or inflammation of the mouth
  13. swollen lymph nodes
  14. ulcers, sores, or white spots in the mouth
  15. unusual bleeding or bruising
  16. unusual tiredness or weakness

Rare

  1. Confusion
  2. diarrhea
  3. fast, shallow breathing
  4. general feeling of discomfort
  5. loss of appetite
  6. mood or mental changes
  7. muscle pain, tenderness, weakness, or cramping
  8. nausea
  9. seizures
  10. sleepiness
  11. stomach discomfort

Incidence not known

  1. Back or leg pain
  2. bleeding gums
  3. blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  4. bloating
  5. blood in the urine
  6. blurred vision or other change in vision
  7. bone pain
  8. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  9. clay-colored stools
  10. constipation
  11. dark urine
  12. decreased appetite
  13. decreased urine output
  14. difficult or labored breathing
  15. difficulty in moving
  16. difficulty in swallowing
  17. dilated neck veins
  18. dizziness
  19. extreme tiredness or weakness
  20. fainting
  21. fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeat
  22. general body swelling
  23. general tiredness and weakness
  24. headache
  25. high fever
  26. hives, skin rash
  27. hoarseness
  28. increased need to urinate
  29. indigestion
  30. irregular breathing
  31. irritation or soreness of the mouth
  32. joint or muscle pain
  33. lack of coordination
  34. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or genitals
  35. light-colored stools
  36. muscle pain, cramp, spasm, or stiffness
  37. nosebleeds
  38. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  39. passing urine more often
  40. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  41. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  42. red, irritated eyes
  43. redness, soreness, or itching skin
  44. runny nose
  45. shakiness in the legs, arms, hands, or feet
  46. shivering
  47. sores, welts, or blisters
  48. stabbing pain
  49. sweating
  50. swollen joints
  51. swollen or painful glands
  52. tightness in the chest
  53. trouble sleeping
  54. unexplained bleeding or bruising
  55. unpleasant breath odor
  56. vomiting
  57. vomiting of blood
  58. weight gain
  59. yellow eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Difficulty having a bowel movement
  2. headache (severe)
  3. lack or loss of strength
  4. muscle soreness
  5. weight loss

Less common

  1. Bluish-brown colored bands on nails
  2. changes in skin color

Incidence not known

  1. Belching
  2. heartburn
  3. stomach cramps
