Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a vaccine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention. It is very important that you tell your doctor about any side effect that occurs after a dose of DTaP-HepB-IPV vaccine, even if the side effect goes away without treatment. Some types of side effects may mean that your child should not receive any more doses of DTaP-HepB-IPV vaccine.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

Incidence not known

  1. Abdominal or stomach pain
  2. agitation
  3. back pain
  4. black, tarry stools
  5. bleeding gums
  6. blood in the urine or stools
  7. bluish color of the fingernails, lips, skin, palms, or nail beds
  8. blurred vision
  9. chills
  10. clay colored stools
  11. collapse or shock-like state
  12. coma
  13. confusion
  14. cough
  15. dark urine
  16. diarrhea
  17. difficulty with swallowing
  18. dizziness
  19. drowsiness
  20. fast heartbeat
  21. fever
  22. hallucinations
  23. headache
  24. heavier menstrual periods
  25. hives or hive like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or sex organs
  26. hoarseness
  27. irritability
  28. irritation
  29. itchiness, puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, tongue, hands, or feet
  30. itching
  31. joint pain
  32. loosening of the skin
  33. mood or mental changes
  34. nausea
  35. pain or cramping in the abdomen or stomach
  36. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  37. redness of the skin
  38. red, irritated eyes
  39. seizures
  40. shortness of breath
  41. skin rash
  42. sore throat
  43. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
  44. stiff neck
  45. stiffness or swelling
  46. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)
  47. swelling
  48. tightness in the chest
  49. troubled breathing
  50. unpleasant breath odor
  51. unusual bleeding or bruising
  52. unusual tiredness or weakness
  53. vomiting or vomiting of blood
  54. weight loss
  55. wheezing
  56. yellow eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

  1. Bleeding
  2. blistering
  3. burning
  4. coldness
  5. discoloration of the skin
  6. fussiness
  7. feeling of pressure
  8. infection
  9. inflammation
  10. lumps
  11. numbness
  12. pain
  13. restlessness
  14. scarring
  15. sleeping more than usual
  16. soreness
  17. stinging
  18. tenderness
  19. tingling
  20. ulceration
  21. unusual cry
  22. warmth on the skin

Incidence not known

  1. Arm or leg swelling
  2. difficulty with moving
  3. dullness, tiredness, weakness, or feeling of sluggishness
  4. feeling of warmth
  5. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  6. hair loss
  7. itching skin
  8. lack or loss of strength
  9. loss of appetite
  10. loss of strength or energy
  11. muscle pain, weakness, or stiffness
  12. pain in the joints
  13. paleness of the skin
  14. redness of the face, neck, arms, and occasionally, upper chest
  15. sneezing
  16. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
  17. swollen, painful, or tender lymph glands in the neck, armpit, or groin
  18. thinning of the hair

Other side effects not listed may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your healthcare professional.
