Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Diarrhea

Rare

  1. Bloody or black, tarry stools
  2. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  3. changes in skin color
  4. changes in urination
  5. chest pain, discomfort, tightness, or heaviness
  6. chills
  7. clumsiness or unsteadiness
  8. confusion
  9. continuing ringing or buzzing or other unexplained noise in the ears
  10. coughing or spitting up blood
  11. dizziness, fainting, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  12. fast, irregular, pounding, or racing heartbeat or pulse
  13. fever
  14. headache, severe and throbbing
  15. hearing loss
  16. hives or welts, skin rash
  17. joint stiffness
  18. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or genitals
  19. light-colored stools
  20. muscle pain or stiffness
  21. nausea
  22. nightmares
  23. numbness of the hands
  24. pain in the joints
  25. pain or discomfort in the arms, jaw, back, or neck
  26. painful, red lumps under the skin, mostly on the legs
  27. pounding in the ears
  28. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  29. redness of the face, neck, arms, and occasionally, upper chest
  30. seizures
  31. severe stomach pain, cramping, or burning
  32. shakiness in the legs, arms, hands, or feet
  33. swelling of the face, feet, or lower legs
  34. swollen, painful, or tender lymph glands in the neck, armpit, or groin
  35. thick, white vaginal discharge with no odor or with a mild odor
  36. unsteadiness, trembling, or other problems with muscle control or coordination
  37. unusual drowsiness, dullness, tiredness, weakness, or feeling of sluggishness
  38. vomiting
  39. white patches in the mouth or on the tongue
  40. yellow eyes or skin

Incidence not known

  1. Blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  2. bluish-colored lips, fingernails, or palms
  3. bone pain
  4. diarrhea, watery and severe, which may also be bloody
  5. difficulty with breathing, chewing, or talking
  6. double vision
  7. excessive muscle tone
  8. feeling of discomfort
  9. feeling, seeing, or hearing things that are not there
  10. increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight
  11. increased sensitivity to pain or touch
  12. irregular or slow heart rate
  13. loss of sense of smell
  14. mood changes
  15. nosebleeds
  16. rapid heart rate
  17. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  18. seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there
  19. sensation of skin burning
  20. severe sunburn
  21. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  22. uncontrolled eye movements
  23. unusual bleeding or bruising
  24. unusual excitement, nervousness, or restlessness
  25. vaginal yeast infection

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

Less common

  1. Runny or stuffy nose
  2. sneezing

Other side effects not listed may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your healthcare professional.
