Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

Less common

  1. Chest tightness
  2. chills
  3. cold sweats
  4. confusion
  5. difficult or labored breathing
  6. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  7. fever
  8. twitching

Rare

  1. Bloating or swelling of the face, arms, hands, lower legs, or feet
  2. blood in the urine
  3. burning while urinating burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  4. chest pain
  5. cough
  6. decrease in the frequency of urination
  7. decreased urine output
  8. difficult or painful urination
  9. difficulty in passing urine (dribbling)
  10. difficulty with swallowing
  11. dizziness
  12. dry mouth
  13. fainting
  14. fast, irregular, pounding, or racing heartbeat or pulse
  15. feeling of warmth or heat
  16. flushing or redness of the skin, especially on the face and neck
  17. frequent urination
  18. headache
  19. hives, itching, or skin rash
  20. increase in heart rate
  21. increased thirst
  22. increased volume of pale, dilute urine
  23. lightheadedness
  24. muscle pain or cramps
  25. nausea
  26. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  27. rapid breathing
  28. rapid weight gain
  29. seizures
  30. severe constipation
  31. severe vomiting
  32. stomach pain
  33. sunken eyes
  34. sweating
  35. swollen, painful, or tender lymph glands in the neck, armpit, or groin
  36. thirst
  37. trembling or shaking of the hands or feet
  38. unusual tiredness or weakness
  39. unusual weight gain or loss
  40. vomiting
  41. wrinkled skin

Incidence not known

  1. Blurred vision
  2. choking
  3. clay-colored stools
  4. cold, clammy skin
  5. dark urine
  6. darkening of the skin
  7. diarrhea
  8. fast, weak pulse
  9. gagging
  10. increased sensitivity to pain
  11. irregular, fast, slow, or shallow breathing
  12. loss of appetite
  13. loss of consciousness
  14. pale or blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  15. unpleasant breath odor
  16. very slow heartbeat
  17. worsening of pain
  18. yellow eyes or skin

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Change in consciousness
  2. chest pain or discomfort
  3. cold, clammy skin
  4. constricted, pinpoint, or small pupils (black part of the eye)
  5. coughing that sometimes produces a pink frothy sputum
  6. decreased awareness or responsiveness
  7. increased sweating
  8. irregular, fast, or slow, or shallow breathing
  9. loss of consciousness
  10. no muscle tone or movement
  11. pale or blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  12. sleepiness or unusual drowsiness
  13. slow or irregular heartbeat
  14. swelling in the legs and ankles,

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Difficulty having a bowel movement
  2. drowsiness
  3. lack or loss of strength
  4. relaxed and calm feeling

Less common

  1. Abnormal dreams
  2. anxiety
  3. belching
  4. burning feeling in the chest or stomach
  5. false or unusual sense of well-being
  6. heartburn
  7. hiccups
  8. indigestion
  9. stomach discomfort or upset
  10. tenderness in the stomach area
  11. trouble sleeping
  12. weight loss

Rare

  1. Absent, missed, or irregular menstrual periods
  2. bad, unusual or unpleasant (after) taste
  3. bloated or full feeling
  4. body aches or pain
  5. change in taste
  6. change in walking and balance
  7. changes in vision
  8. clumsiness or unsteadiness
  9. continuous ringing or buzzing or other unexplained noise in the ears
  10. crying
  11. decreased interest in sexual intercourse
  12. deep or fast breathing with dizziness
  13. delusions of persecution, mistrust, suspiciousness, or combativeness
  14. dental caries or tooth decay
  15. depression
  16. difficulty with speaking
  17. dry skin
  18. dryness or soreness of the throat
  19. excess air or gas in the stomach or bowels
  20. excessive muscle tone
  21. feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
  22. feeling of unreality
  23. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  24. headache, severe and throbbing
  25. hearing loss
  26. hoarseness
  27. inability to have or keep an erection
  28. increase in body movements
  29. increased appetite
  30. increased cough
  31. irritability
  32. loss in sexual ability, desire, drive, or performance
  33. loss of heat from the body
  34. loss of memory
  35. loss of strength or energy
  36. muscle stiffness, tension, tightness, pain, or weakness
  37. neck pain
  38. numbness of the feet, hands, and around the mouth
  39. passing of gas
  40. problems with memory
  41. quick to react or overreact emotionally
  42. rapidly changing moods
  43. red, swollen skin
  44. restlessness
  45. runny nose
  46. scaly skin
  47. sensation of spinning
  48. sense of detachment from self or body
  49. swelling or inflammation of the mouth
  50. voice changes
