Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. bleeding gums
  3. chest pain
  4. chills
  5. cough
  6. fever
  7. loss of coordination
  8. lower back or side pain
  9. painful or difficult urination
  10. pains in the chest, groin, or legs, especially calves of the legs
  11. pale skin
  12. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  13. severe headaches of sudden onset
  14. sore throat
  15. sudden onset of slurred speech
  16. sudden vision changes
  17. swollen glands
  18. trouble breathing
  19. ulcers, sores, or white spots in the mouth
  20. unusual bleeding or bruising
  21. unusual tiredness or weakness

Less common

  1. Bloody urine or bloody stools
  2. chest tightness
  3. decreased frequency or amount of urine
  4. fainting or loss of consciousness
  5. fast or irregular breathing
  6. increased blood pressure
  7. increased thirst
  8. itching, skin rash
  9. loss of appetite
  10. nausea
  11. swelling of the eyes, eyelids, face, fingers, or lower legs
  12. vomiting
  13. weight gain

Incidence not known

  1. Blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  2. joint or muscle pain
  3. pain and redness of the skin in the area of earlier radiation treatment
  4. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  5. red, irritated eyes
  6. stomach cramps, tenderness, or pain
  7. watery diarrhea

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Burning, tingling, numbness, or pain in the hands, arms, feet, or legs
  2. confusion
  3. cough
  4. diarrhea
  5. difficulty having a bowel movement
  6. difficulty with moving
  7. difficulty with swallowing
  8. discouragement
  9. dizziness
  10. dry mouth
  11. feeling sad or empty
  12. hair loss
  13. headache
  14. heartburn
  15. hoarseness
  16. increase in heart rate
  17. irritability
  18. lightheadedness
  19. loss of interest or pleasure
  20. mood changes
  21. muscle ache, cramp, or stiffness
  22. pain or burning in the throat
  23. pain produced by swallowing
  24. rapid breathing
  25. sensation of pins and needles
  26. stabbing pain
  27. stuffy or runny nose
  28. sunken eyes
  29. swelling or inflammation of the mouth
  30. swollen joints
  31. thinning of the hair
  32. thirst
  33. tiredness
  34. trouble concentrating
  35. trouble sleeping
  36. weight loss
  37. wrinkled skin
